About Our School

Who We Are

The Heritage School, located in Newnan, Georgia, is a college preparatory school committed to developing the whole child from age 3 through 12th grade. Through rigorous academics, competitive athletics, meaningful traditions, and shared experiences, we cultivate confident, engaged students prepared to lead lives of purpose and character.

From the earliest years through graduation, we emphasize intellectual growth, teamwork, self-awareness, and strong relationships. Grounded in faith, traditional values, and a deep sense of community, The Heritage School is a place where students are known, challenged, and encouraged to become their best selves.

The Heritage School is accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the Georgia Association of Independent Schools, and the Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools.

Our Mission and Core Values

The Heritage School is a college preparatory school, rooted in Christian principles and guided by a steadfast mission: to develop the mind through a full range of rigorous academics; to develop the body through competition and teamwork; to develop the spirit through self-awareness and growth; and to develop camaraderie through shared experiences. We embody gratitude and belief in God, loyalty to our country, traditional values, and a community grounded in love.

The Heritage School fosters an environment in which children become confident, engaging adults dedicated to pursuits they find meaningful. Our commitment is to the child. We seek the best and see the best in every student.

Our heritage is both tangible and intangible. The ideas, traditions, and memories—Jubilee Day, Bigs and Littles, moments in the classroom, interaction on the field, and Interim trips—are just as essential to who we are and who we will become as the buildings and pecan grove on which The Heritage School stands.

Camaraderie

Shared experiences and meaningful traditions foster belonging, connection, and a deep sense of community that extends beyond the classroom.

Our History

The Heritage School was founded in 1969 when a group of local parents came together to create an independent school in Newnan, Georgia. Later that year, the state granted a charter to The Heritage School, Incorporated, and Mrs. Katie Arnall Freeman donated a 61-acre pecan orchard as the site for the school. George H. Keller, Jr. was named the first headmaster.

The school opened in September 1970 with 134 students in grades one through eight and a faculty of eleven teachers. Within a few years, additional grades were added, leading to the first graduating class in 1975. Since then, The Heritage School has grown steadily, expanding its campus and curriculum while maintaining a strong focus on academic excellence and community.

Today, the traditions, classrooms, athletics, and shared experiences continue to shape students, reflecting the vision of the founders and the values that guide the school.
