Social Studies in the Early Learning Center
Social studies topics are introduced and reinforced with classroom activities. The children take field trips to further the concept that they are part of, and a contributing member of, a larger community. Community service is an important part of the Pre-Kindergarten social studies curriculum. The children partner with older students to participate in projects to help others in our community, such as Food Pantry donations, nursing home visits, and cards for hospital patients. The children learn that it is important to give back to their community.
Social Studies activities in Kindergarten correlate with the Open Court units as well as the seasons and holidays. The Kindergarten students participate in several community service projects throughout the year. The students collect canned goods monthly for the local Food Pantry. They make seasonal cards to send to the cancer hospital and enjoy working on service projects such as Stop Hunger Now with the older students.
