Technology by Grade Level
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
Students and their teachers in our Early Learning Center utilize iPads, Smart Boards, and Smart Tables for activities that enhance each unit of study.
In addition to incorporating technology in their classrooms, students in First through Fourth Grades meet regularly for computer classes, where they are introduced to a variety of techniques, technologies, and applications, including:
- Introductory coding
- Presentation creation using PowerPoint, Pixie, and other presentation software
- Social sharing with parents through a safe, age-appropriate web platform
- Connecting with classrooms around the world to learn about other cultures
- Brochure design and creation
- Spreadsheets and graphing
- Technology vocabulary
The philosophy at this age level is to use technology as a tool to enhance learning, engage students, spark creativity, and give learners a level of comfort with technology that will translate into fluency in the Middle School.
Fifth and Sixth Grade
Fifth and Sixth Grade students have one-to-one access to iPads, which they use daily, under teacher supervision, for a variety of activities, such as:
- Essay and creative writing
- Scientific research
- History lessons
- Presentation creation
- Math facts practice
- Checking school email
- Understanding legitimate research sources
Seventh Through Twelfth Grade
Seventh through Twelfth Grade students take part in the Bring Your Own Technology initiative, bringing their personal laptop or tablet to school for regular use in the classroom. Students are provided with a Heritage email account as well as a free Office 365 account, allowing them to install the Microsoft Office Suite on their personal devices and store their files in the cloud. where they are securely accessible from any internet-enabled device. In addition to the methodical introduction and utilization of technology at every grade level, our Upper School students can also enroll in evolving computer programming courses, in which they learn website design, programming, and application development.
