Upper School Performing Arts Courses
A minimum of one Performing or Visual Art course
This course instructs students on the fundamentals of ensemble singing through classroom instruction, rehearsal, and performances. Students perform a variety of repertoire from classic to modern music during the school year.
This course explores all areas of theatre including playwriting, script analysis, improvisation, set design, set construction, lighting design, stage management, acting, and directing. Students must be able to work in all areas, both on and off the stage. Students wishing to compete in the Fall One-Act must be enrolled in Drama. Prerequisites: None
This course develops individual musical technique, ensemble playing, and music theory. Students can choose from violin, viola, cello, and bass. The repertoire for the string ensemble will include baroque, classical, American and European folk music (bluegrass, Irish, etc.), and contemporary pieces. The string ensemble will have several performance opportunities throughout the year, on and off campus. Students will be required to supply the instrument they will be playing. Prerequisites: None
AP Music Theory
The course includes Music Fundamentals, Rhythm and Meter, Harmonic Concepts, Score Analysis, as well as Melodic and Harmonic Dictation. Though it is not necessary to play an instrument, a basic understanding of music notation is helpful. The material covered will aid the student in every aspect of music performance and appreciation.
