Our ELC students learn an array of skills throughout their time in music class. They focus on music fundamentals such as simple songs, steady beat, and playing percussion instruments. They learn the beginnings of music theory using Kodaly, Orff, and Dalcroze. Students have opportunities to perform at assemblies and small concerts throughout the year.
Our Lower School students begin blossoming in self-expression throughout their time in music class. They begin to fine tune their musical fundamentals through writing music, learning multi-part songs, and playing music oriented games. They begin digging into music theory through Kodaly, Orff, and Dalcroze. Students have opportunities to perform at assemblies and concerts throughout the year.
In 5th Grade Heritage students select an instrument to play for 5th and 6th Grade Symphonic Band. Instruments offered are the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion kit. Students implement and build upon skills and concepts they learned in ELC-LS to work towards performances at the end of each semester.
The Heritage Voices is an after school performing ensemble open to students in the Lower School. Students learn how to rehearse real music and perform multi-part songs. The Heritage Voices were featured in the 2023 Spring Musical, "The Grunch". This ensemble offers more opportunities for performances and growth in music.
