Heritage School teams have clinched return trips to the Class AAA state tournament following second-place finishes in Region 1 behind defending state champions Holy Spirit during the regular season. Heritage’s boys closed out the regular season with a 67-51 victory at Dominion Christian on Friday. Kasen Jennings had a team-high 20 points in an effort paced by Dylan McLean’s 14 and Lance Terry’s 13. The Hawks take a 16-9 record into the postseason while aiming for the program’s third consecutive trip to the state finals. Heritage’s only two losses to GISA opponents in 2018-19 were against two-time champion Holy Spirit. This year’s GISA semifinals and finals will be hosted by Georgia Southwestern in Americus. All three players joined teammates Connor Thompson and EB Dowuona while earning All-Region selections. The Hawks await Tuesday’s first-round winner between No. 3 seed Creekside Christian and host Notre Dame of Duluth, while opening play in Thursday’s semifinals at 8:30 p.m. Heritage’s girls play its semifinal at 7 p.m., against either No. 3 seed Notre Dame or No. 6 Dominion Christian. The Lady Hawks (16-4, 9-3) lost two of their four games to defending champion Holy Spirit. Heritage’s only other losses came against region tournament host Notre Dame and Central Christian.
